Ore Gold and silver in the rock
Fine metal Refined for the workshop
Ornament Stud, ring, bangle, chain
Profit in the making
The workshop buys gold with care, draws each piece before the metal is cut, and finishes antique Tamil Nadu designs that sell for more.
Buy, then sell as jewellery
Auction gold
The company buys gold at auction and sells finished ornaments. The metal is chosen carefully at the sale, then made into studs, rings, bangles, and chains.
Draw first, cut less
Computerized ornament design
Designs are drawn on a computer before the gold or silver is cut. The shape and the weight are set first, which lowers making charges and cuts metal wastage.
Older patterns, higher value
Antique designs
Traditional antique Tamil Nadu ornament designs are made in the workshop. These older patterns sell at a higher value and bring more profit on the ornaments.
More about gold mining
Gold mining is the work of finding gold-bearing rock, freeing the metal from that rock, and refining it until it is fit for an ornament.
From the ground
-
01
The ore
Gold sits in quartz and other rock, often as fine grains. The mine follows the vein and brings that ore to the surface.
-
02
Crushing and separation
The rock is crushed so the gold can be separated from sand and stone. What remains is a gold-rich concentrate, not yet an ornament.
-
03
Refining
The concentrate is refined until the gold is fine. That fine gold is melted, cast, and held for the workshop.
Why the mine matters
An ornament is only as sound as the metal inside it. Mining and refining decide the purity before a stud, ring, bangle, or chain is drawn.
SSS Fashions treats mining as the first part of the piece: the gold is known, refined, and then made in Puliyakulam rather than bought as an unnamed bar.
Finished gold is soft enough to work and strong enough, once alloyed for jewellery, to hold a setting, a clasp, or a bangle’s curve.
More about silver mining
Silver mining recovers silver from ore, often where it sits with other metals, and refines it for ornaments and for the silver coin that accompanies a gold piece.
From the ore
-
01
Where silver is found
Silver is mined from its own veins and is also recovered when gold and other ores are processed. The ore is brought out and sorted before refining.
-
02
Separation
Crushed ore is treated so the silver leaves the rock. The result is a silver-bearing material ready for the refinery, not a finished bangle or coin.
-
03
Fine silver
Refining lifts the silver to a fine purity. That metal is then rolled, drawn, or cast for silver ornaments and for the opening silver coin.
Silver beside gold
Silver takes a bright polish and works well for lighter ornaments. The same workshop that finishes gold also finishes silver, so the two metals are made with the same care.
A silver coin from this metal is the opening offer with a gold purchase: mined and refined silver, struck as a coin rather than left as ore.
The office in Puliyakulam, Coimbatore, is where that finished silver is shown with the gold ornaments.
Tamil Nadu jewellery designs
The workshop finishes gold and silver in the shapes worn across Tamil Nadu: temple work, jimikki, mango motifs, and the coin that sits beside a gold piece.
An armlet of gold, curved to the upper arm and set with a stone at the peak.
A waist belt of linked gold, worn over silk, with a broad central plate.
A necklace of gold coins, each disc struck and hung on a single strand.
The paisley motif repeated on a ring, a stud, or the edge of a chain.
Manufacturing the ornaments
Refined gold and silver come to the bench. Each ornament is designed, formed, joined, polished, and checked before it leaves the workshop.
How a piece is made
-
01
Design
The shape is drawn first: the face of a stud, the band of a ring, the curve of a bangle, or the links of a chain.
-
02
Metal ready for the bench
Fine gold or fine silver is alloyed for jewellery strength, then melted and cast, or drawn into wire and sheet.
-
03
Forming and finish
The piece is filed, soldered where a joint is needed, set if it holds a stone, and polished until the surface is even. It is then checked for weight and finish.
What the workshop makes
Small gold pieces, formed and polished for the ear, with a post and clutch fitted by hand.
Bands sized on a mandrel, shaped, and finished so the inner circle is smooth.
A continuous curve of gold, formed to a wrist size and polished on both faces.
Links drawn from wire, joined in a repeat, and closed with a clasp made in the same metal.
